Juergen’s Bäckerei & Konditorei (Bakery & Pastry shop) is not only a house of fine pastries, it is also a restaurant, delicatessen, a wine shop, and a bed & breakfast. The German bäckerei, once visited by Arnold Schwarzenegger, is located at 525 south 4th Street (on the corner of 4th and Berger, just one block south of Livingston Avenue) in the heart of Columbus' German Village. Run for the past 30 years by Rosemarie Keidel, a German immigrant. Juergen’s is a well known landmark truly authentic to her heritage. She provides a comfortable, unique atmosphere of “Old World” charm while serving traditional German dinners such as Saurbraten, Jagerschnitzel, Naturschnitzel, bratwurst, and Konignin Pastete. All bakery goods are homemade using recipes that have been handed down through the generations of Rosemarie’s family; both her father and her grandfather were bakers, and as tradition, all baked goods are made with the finest ingredients and contain no preservatives. A variety of traditional pastries such as Strudel, Torten, Linzer, and fresh baked breads are also available for catering. Rosemarie herself recommends the Bienenstich, which she describes as coffee cake with roasted almonds, double Bavarian cream, and honey. Juergens’s Bäckerei & Konditorei is the next best thing to being in Germany.
